2nd GYMNASIUM OF MESSINI

The 2nd Gymnsium of Messini is placed near the largest city of Messinia, Kalamata. Although Greece’s  economy is highly based on tourism, Kalamata and furthermore Messini are still considered places off the beaten track. Messini is a rural town with 4000 habitants who are mainly living off the land and most specifically by cultivating figs and olive trees. It’s a rather undeveloped touristic city near the sea. In this area a lot of immigrants live, mostly from Albania, Bulgaria and Poland who work mainly in agricultural activities and jobs like harvesting the olive trees. Their offspring attend the local schools and more often than not they are in need of special attention and help.

This program will benefit our students because they will learn to coexist and interact with their fellow migrant students by learning more about the vast variety and diversity of cultures of the European community.
